My son just happened to listen to Vengerov's Polonaise by Wieniawski in his dad's car. Now, he wants to play it so badly. I don't know if he is capable at this stage with his skill level. He just finished 1st movement of Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. But Polonaise seems to have a lot of chops. Unfortunately, his teacher is on his vacation now. We won't be able to see him for several weeks. Meanwhile, he is trying to play it. The score just happened to be in one of his violin textbook he used to use. I told him it may be better off leaving it alone until his teacher gives him OK, but he can't keep hands off of it. Maybe I should call his teacher and ask what he thinks. We were just discussing which piece he should tackle next before he left for vacation. He wasn't sure if he wanted my son to finish 2nd and 3rd movement of Mendelssohn or choose something else.
On another note, Vengerov is one of my son's violin heroes. As some of you may know, he injured his right shoulder and all the concerts were cancelled for the rest of the year. There is a brief update on him at his fan's website. It sounds like he is doing better. I really wish his quick recovery.

Well, I had a chance to talk to his teacher and the answer was "Not yet." She said it is good that now he has something to work toward. Meanwhile, what am I supposed to do? I know he will sneak into the score and practice on the side....
