Now, the competition we were anticipating was postponed due to a bad weather we had. So it is rescheduled for April 5th. My son was getting a little bored with polishing up his Mendelssohn. (Although I think he can make is a little better, you can't get it into a eleven year-old's head.) We spoke with his teacher and he gave him a couple of short pieces to work on as encore performances. They are Wieniawski's Obertass and Carl Bohm's Perpetuo Mobile. (You can sample listen from the links.) Both are very energetic and fun pieces. My son seems to love them. Perpetuo Mobile needs Sautille the whole time. His teacher told him that he needs to relax totally otherwise he will be in a mess. Obertass sounds a lot like something that Paganini would compose with finger plucking and harmonics incorporated though out. After this, he will probably start on one of the Morzart's violin concertos. We've been putting off until he was a little older. We think he is ready to learn them now.
