Summer Violin Study Update

I know I haven't posted for awhile. My mother was diagnosed with Cervical cancer, so I had to fly home to take care of her for a couple of weeks from late June. After that, I took my son to Colorado to participate in Musin the Mountains. It was very productive two weeks. He had an opportunity to take lessons from Philippe Quint. Although he only had five thirty-minute lessons, the improvement was obvious. They worked mostly on Mozart Violin Concerto No. 4, 1st movement. Not only Mr. Quint gave him some pointers for the piece, he also gave my son a lot of basic skill builder like how to exercise bow pressure control using less pressure at the frog and gradually increase in index finger pressure toward the tip, finger flexibility exercise at the frog and the tip, ect., and explained to him how important it is to use metronome regularly. On top of all these things, we had a chance to listen to him perform Corigliano: The Red Violin Caprices from his new CD. It was fierce! My son also picked up his CD Rózsa: Sonata for Solo Violin; Variations on a Hungarian Peasant Song. He especially liked the track no. 9 (North Hungarian Peasant Songs and Dances, Op 5; Allegro giocoso). In the car, he kept pressing repeat over and over like he couldn't get enough of it:) This encounter with Mr. Quint made my son really motivated about violin. Seeing a young charismatic virtuoso right in front of his eyes and being taught by him made him want to put extra effort into his practicing. Thank you, Mr. Quint!
