My son started working on this piece last month. It is a monster to say the least. A lot of double stops... A lot of dynamics. It is so dramatic and creepy at times and beautiful at the same time. His teacher recommended Gidon Kremer's recording for my son to listen to. I also like David Oistrakh's version. His teacher told him that there weren't many places you can change your bowing or fingering from Urtext. Right now, he is working on the first two pages to bring them up to a decent shape. This will probably take a long time to learn till the end. I don't want him to rush just to get it done, but take it slow and cleanly learn section by section. He is working on controlling the bow pressure so that he can create more dynamic range. He tends to play soft most of the time, but he needs more of fierceness in this piece. Let's see what he accomplishes this month:)

Wow. That's very impressive repertoire. Hope it's going well.
FYI, My daughter just got back from Bowdoin International Music Festival. She LOVED it. Way better than TAnglewood.
Hi! Hope your son is doing great with his violin!
My daughter is plugging away. Do you have any plans for this summer?
Happy New Year!
Hello weirsdo! I am so guilty of not updating my blog... again, my new years resolution failed for 2010:) Hopefully, I'll do better in 2011:):) We really haven't decided what we're going to do with summer plans. But maybe trying to get into Perlman Music Program. This is just a hard-to-accomplish goal since they don't take many students. We'll see. If that fails we have to think of other camps. By the way, I heard from one of the boys who were at Bowdoin. The boys' dorm gets pretty crazy, sounds like. Girls are much nicer:) I am sure your daughter enjoyed it! Who knows we might even consider Bowdoin this summer...
The craziest thing I heard about was two Koreans snubbing their American roommate because her intonation wasn't that good. . . .
Mall Diva is going back to Bowdoin this summer.
Wow, that's harsh. But hopefully the American girl was more motivated to work even harder instead of feeling down.
My son was luckily accepted by Perlman Music Program for this summer. I already asked him to get Perlman's autograph for me:) Honestly, this is the first time he is going away by himself for a long period of time. I'm sure he is so excited not having me around. I need to get over it....He is growing up:( & :)
