As a novice violin lover, David Oistrakh is one of my most favorite violinists. I like his phrasing and beautiful tone, color just to name a few.
I first heard about him when my husband and I took my son to a Suzuki Camp in Atlanta. While my son was practicing in the lounge of the building between his classes, a gentleman approached my husband and asked if the boy was his son. That was Reginald Williams from Williams Gengakki. I wasn't there because I had to watch our other children at the hotel, but he told my husband my son's playing reminded him of Oistrakh. I believe he was just trying to be nice. My son, at that point, has only been playing for a little over one year. He couldn't have sounded any way near decent to be resembling such a great violinist :) He jotted down Oistrakh's name on a piece of paper for my husband to keep. When he came back to the hotel and told me, we went to the CD store and started searching for his CD/DVD. That is when I first heard him in recording. Since then I have been building up my library of his (among others) recordings little by little, yet there are so many that I haven't got a hold of.
Here are some of my collection of Oistrakh.
