Just when my son started to work on Mozart No. 3, we found out that the competition he wants to enter next year requires No. 4 instead. So, last night's lesson was solely dedicated to learn this new piece. When you listen to it, it sounds so light and easy, but there are a lot of tricky parts he needs to tackle. His teacher helped him with some fingerings and bowing changes to make it better for him. He played very very slow to absorb melody and focus on cleanliness. For the first time to learn this, he did well. My husband recorded the lesson with our camcorder since I had to stay home with other two children. In the video, his teacher explained that in classical era, they didn't use glissando. Therefore, he needed to careful not to make any portamento and glissando, etc. We always learn something new at the lesson. They didn't get to Cadenza last night. The most popular one seems to be Joachim. However, his teacher might look into some other cadenzas to give him. They will probably start working on it at the next lesson.
